“Innovative practices in Human Resource Management” by Mr. Naga Siddharth, Chief People Officer, Cloud Nine Hospitals

The students of TAPMI had the privilege of attending a guest lecture on “Innovative practices in Human Resource Management” by Mr. Naga Siddharth, the Chief People Officer of Cloud Nine Hospitals. Mr. Siddharth holds an MBA degree in Human Resources and Marketing and has worked for various companies such as Citrix, HCL and Air Deccan.

Mr. Siddharth started off by giving a brief introduction about Cloud Nine and how it aims at providing the best service possible to the admitted patients. He emphasized that Cloud Nine came into existence in order to counter the high infant mortality in the country. The hospital has succeeded in maintaining a 100% survival rate since its inception.

Mr. Siddharth then spoke about strategic HR and why it is important to incorporate innovative practices in HRM. He pointed out that innovation was required for competitive advantage and that HR personnel bring together people and business in the organization. He shed light on the mechanics of delivering HR value proposition and how Human resources add value to customers. He elaborated that it was the job of an HR personnel to create shared values.

He further continued by explaining the core values of Cloud Nine and how it has successfully overcome the challenges of high attrition which is common among many organizations today. He attributed the hospitals success to its customer centric approach, respect for employees and bias for action. Mr. Siddharth further elaborated that clients are never left out and are kept up to date on the progress of the proceedings at the hospital time to time.

Topics such as linkages between strategic, organizational and HR context and staff performance appraisal processes were also discussed. He concluded the lecture by throwing some light on the culture and motivational climate in the organization which is measured by various factors such as openness, authenticity, experimentation and trust. He promptly answered various queries which were raised by the students about the working of Cloud Nine.

The students were given an insight into what they would experience while working with the organization. Overall, the session was quite informative and interactive and provided the students with a plethora of information regarding various Human Resource management practices followed at Cloud Nine.
