Mr. Krishnaswamy gave TAPMIans a brief history about the healthcare industry and provided facts about the “Current Indian Healthcare Landscape”

The students of TAPMI had the privilege to attend a guest lecture on “Primer on Corporate Healthcare”, by Mr. Kumar S. Krishnaswamy, Vice President – Human Resource, Fortis Healthcare.
Mr. Kumar S. Krishnaswamy completed his MBA from XLRI Jamshedpur and was associated with some prominent organizations like The Taj Group, Murugappa Group, Wockhardt Hospitals. He is a healthcare professional with extensive experience in Performance Management, HR Automation tools and Communication. Apart from this, he has credence in mentorship programs.
The session commenced with Mr. Krishnaswamy giving us a brief history about the healthcare industry and provided facts about the “Current Indian Healthcare Landscape”.
He led us through the developments in the industry, and the growing role of management in organizing and aiding better administration. He pointed out the increasing need of involvement of private sector in healthcare industry, owing to the shortcomings of the public sector. He also spoke about the increasing need for certification and standardization of hospitals in our country to bring them at par with international facilities.
The core idea he conveyed was how management has gained relevance in today’s corporate healthcare scenario. The major competencies required for such management roles include: Business Orientation, Resource Retention and People Management skills. The other topics he touched in the session were related to Technology Advancements, symbiosis among Insurance and Healthcare industries to help serve the patients better. He also spotted out the need, to maintain a business perspective and empathy with the customers or patients, so as to administer better services and provide all encompassing growth for the industry, organization and the people at large.
He spoke about the Manpower Model in a hospital which signifies that today not only doctors but people with management background in Marketing, Finance, Operations or Human Resource are equally important in healthcare, and how it has helped it to evolve as a full-fledged business model.
Overall, it was an interactive session led by the honourable speaker with equal and intent participation by the students. The students found the session to be highly informative and useful .
